Saturday 31st March
Last Saturday we welcomed Cork Con to the Brothers field and despite being understrength we were confident our boys could extend their unbeaten run this season. However on this occasion the Con boys were in determined mood to avenge the result of earlier in the season, and did so in fine style, winning out by 5 tries to 1.
This scoreline however does'nt justify the efforts of our boys, as over the entire game they had the lions share of possession and territory but just could'nt finish on this occasion. But credit to Cork Con who had some excellent runners and scored 3 great break-away tries, and its probably not a bad sign when you're disappointed to lose to a club such as Con.
Panel: Gavin,Neil,Euan(capt)Tadhg,John,Killian,Darren,Liam,Greg,Keith,Jack Lynch,Jack O'Sullivan,Patrick,Ritchie,Oisin and Sam & Jordi supporting.
Saturday 10th March
Last Saturday brought about another home game with the visit of Crosshaven to the Brothers field.
A ten aside game was played and from the off it was obvious that they were fielding a fairly inexperienced bunch as the game was very one sided in our boys favour from start to finish. Credit to our boys for always playing at a consistently good standard despite the opposition.
We would also like to congratulate the U15's on their great cup victory.
Panel;- John,Neil,Euan,Tadhg,Greg,Killian,Liam,Sam,Darren,Finn,Jack O'Sullivan,Patrick,Jack Mc Carthy,Jack Lynch,Oisin,Richie,and Jordi recovering.
Saturday 25th February
Last Saturday morning brought about a pretty rare event- A home game!
Bantry were our welcome visitors to the brothers pitch. While their numbers were tight with eight players available, four skibb boys joined their ranks for the first half and four new lads swapped over for the second half, thus allowing a very good competitive twelve aside game to take place.
This was a great work out for all the players and it was great to see the boys who lined out with Bantry make such a genuine effort against their own jersey, and also seemed to bring out the best of the home team when faced by your own team mates in a competitive scenario.
There were some great passages of play great scores taken and Liam and Sam gave a super exhibition of tackling. It was also great to see Bantry coach Sean back on the line with his team following his serious accident and we wish our own Mike a speedy recovery from his recent mishap.
Panel:-
Tadhg,Euan,Gavin,John,Jack O'Sullivan,Killian,Liam,Darren,Sam,Jack Mc Carthy,Keith,Richie,Shane,Patrick,Finn,Oisin,Jack Lynch,Colm, and Jordi on crutches.
Saturday 18th February
Last Saturday saw the under 11's make the journey to Carrigaline for a blitz with the locals and Sunday's well.
A good panel of 19 travelled and with 12 a-side games agreed, this meant plenty of player rotation.
First up was against the Well and despite playing up hill and against a stiff breeze our boys were two tries to the good by half time.
The Well continued to make it a good tough game but our lads held the upper hand and closed out the game winning by 4 tries to 1.
Then it was the turn of the home team to try and put our lads to the sword, however their lack of contesting at scrum and lineout put them at a slight disadvantage in term's of general competitiveness, but despite their best efforts our lads played very well to run out winners by 5 tries to 0.
Panel:
Euan,Neil,Gavin,John,Tadhg,Killian,Liam,Sam,Greg,Keith,Darren,Ritchie,Patrick,Fin,Jack O'Sullivan,Olan,Oisin,Jack McCarthy,Jack Crowley,and Jordi on crutches.
Saturday 4th February
Last Saturday saw all teams face Cork Con at Temple Hill, however due to space restrictions the U11 and 12's played at the fine new Corporation pitches in Mahon.
Two 13 a side games were played and for the first game exchanges were fairly even with great defence being displayed by both teams and scores were hard to come by which meant a draw at one try each was a fair result.
An entirely new Con team took the field for the second game with our squad being rotated and the game was being played in a similar fashion to the first encounter with a really good standard of rugby being played. At the end of the first period scores were tied at one a-piece but the second half saw our boys really up their performance and get in for three more scores before the final whistle with no reply from the home team.Final score Skibb 4, Con 1 Afterwards all players and trainers were treated to a fine spread by our generous hosts.
However a nasty knee injury to Jordi put a damper on the day and we all wish him a speedy recovery. We'll also be losing Sam shortly for a while and wish him all the best and look forward to his return.

Saturday 21st January
Last Saturday the 21st of January in ideal conditions saw the U11's have their first fixture of the new year with a difficult looking away trip to Highfield.Despite missing several regulars 17 players were available to play. With two games to play every boy would get plenty game time and the lads that started first were quick to get on top and built up a good lead and despite the interchanges closed out the game by 5 tries to 2.
The second game saw a stronger looking Highfield team take to the field, but not undaunted our lads got stuck in and played some very gutsy rugby and took the lead with 2 good trys. However Highfield were playing some good stuff of their own and when their very speedy winger brought the scores level the game could have gone either way. Our lads had the final say following good pressure Sam got in at the corner to score the winning try. Result Skibbereen 3 Highfield 2.
Panel:- Mike Veale,Neill Cronin,Tadhg Hickey,Euan O'Donovan,Greg O'Mahony,Killian O'Sullivan,Liam O'Farrell,Sam Burchill,Darren Daly,Patrick O'Brien,Jack Lynch,Gavin Cronin,Jack O'Sullivan,Finn O'Donovan,Oisin Lucy,Richie Burchill,Olan Crowley.
Despite being out through injury Jordi came to support, and thanks to those parents who transported the lads and gave great support.
Saturday 26th November
Last Saturday saw the U11s make the short trip to great rivals Bandon to take part in a four team blitz with Clon and Shandon the other opponents. With Shandon late arriving, Bandon demolished Clon in the opening game while our lads had time for a good warm up.
This is exactly what they needed as in their first game versus Bandon they met a very well drilled team, However our lads rose to the challenge and put in a tremendous performance to come out on top by 2 trys to 1, both scored by Sam.
Second up was Clon and with most of the more experienced players being rested, this was a chance for the rest of the squad to show what they could do and they continued the winning run with a battling 3 trys to 1 victory.
Lastly with all squad members getting a run Shandon were comprehensively defeated. Three out of three was a good return and this bunch of lads continued to improve with each week.
Panel:- John O'Driscoll,Geordie O,Brien,Mike Veale,Tadhg Hickey,Gavin Cronin,Killian O'Sullivan,Sam Burchill,Liam O,Farrell,Kieth Whelton,Jack Lynch,Darren Daly,Patrick O,Brien,Finn O,Donovan,Euan O'Donovan,Oisin Lucy,Jack O'Sullivan,Richie Burchill,Oran Collins,Neil Cronin.
Sat 5th November
Last Saturday in beautiful conditions at the Showgrounds the U11s welcomed Clon. With a squad of eighteen to choose from for an eleven a-side game meant that more or less two different teams played a half.
After a good close first half Skibb led by 3 tries to 2. However a rather one sided second half saw Skibb run out convincing winners. Credit to a game Clon outfit who never gave up and kept trying to play good rugby.
Squad; Sam,Reuben,Neil,Shane,Patrick,Killian,Fin,Keith,Darren,Tadhg,John,Jordi,Liam,Jack,Colm,Euan,Odhran,&Oisin.
Match Report from Musgrave Park - 28 October
Munster verses Aironi game at Musgrave Park on Friday 28th proved to be a very special occasion for the Skibb under 11's who were invited to play Waterpark in the half time game. The occasion was made all the more momentous as Munster included the majority of their returning world cup stars and this being their last game at Musgrave park until April.
As this was a 12 aside game, there was unfortunately 10 lads who had to miss out but great credit is due to those who came along and got behind their team. The game itself was an exciting contest probably more so than the main event with four trys being scored.
Waterpark made the early running and had real speedsters out wide who twice broke through to lead 2-0 after 5 minutes of play. However our boys had now settled into their more structured game and were dominating at rucks and in the tight. A couple of great surges from John,Liam and Sam eventually saw Killian getting in for our first score and with only a few minutes remaining good work by Mike,Jordi,Tadhg and Neil took play up to he line with John getting over the equalising score. The resulting kick off brought the final whistle from impartial referee Paul O'Brien and a fair result. Darren,Keith, Jack and Gavin also played very soundly on the night.
Thanks to those parents and supporters who made the trip!

U11 Blitz@ Muskerry
Last Saturday 22 nd October saw the U11's make their second trip of the season so far to Muskerry to take on the home team Old Christians and Shandon in a Blitz. In atrocious conditions they played Old Christians first quickly getting on top running out easy winners without conceding a score. Second up was Shandon and again our boys proved too strong, securing another easy victory. Last up was Muskerry who provided a good test for our lads but we still came out on top by 2 tries to 1! This was a good turn out with 20 players available on the day and only conceding 1 try in three games but the only down side was loosing two players to injury but hopefully they will be recovered for next week.
Regards
